How long has he been away from the kids, assuming he didn't go to Cali between NYC and London?
2 weeks now. My guess is it'll probably be another 1 or 2 weeks before he goes home.
The initial PR said Harry's itinerary was an 8-day trip to NYC and London, so since we know Harry had an evening event in NYC on 9/22, he probably flew out on 9/21. (I feel like there was maybe some CDAN gossip about Harry being in NYC on 9/21, something about Meghan blowing up his phone and Harry spending the night partying.)
So with 9/22 counting as Day 1 of the trip, that places Day 8 on 9/30 - the WellChild Awards - so Harry likely flew straight to London from NYC and was probably expected to return to California after the WellChild Awards.
Sentebale announced Harry was traveling to Lesotho and South Africa on 9/27, and Harry was in Lesotho on 10/1. He traveled immediately after WellChild and it was most likely a private flight since all commercial flights require layovers and are 15+ hours. On 10/3, he was in Johannesburg for a conference.
The Daily Mail confirmed Harry's African trip was to be 4 days long, which put his return flight on either 10/4 or 10/5. My money's on a 10/5 departure since the news that Harry is staying longer in Johannesburg dropped today.
The Daily Express called Harry's Johannesburg/Cape Town extension "an extra few days" and also says "there's also another trip planned which has been blanked out of his diary and he's keen to keep it very private."
Few is generally used to describe 3-4 days so Harry will probably leave South Africa around 10/9 or so, at which point I think he will be on his super top secret private trip. I'm honestly getting military vibes on that secret trip...are there British armed forces still in Afghanistan where Harry can relive his glory days? If it's not Afghanistan, then possibly Israel or Ukraine. Or maybe it's Invictus-related.
Otherwise my guesses are he's going back to the UK or to Australia.
(There was a lot of PR months ago of how desperately Harry wanted to go to Ukraine and be the first UK royal to the front lines - William beat him there - and there was a bit of Sussex PR awhile ago too about their desire to have a fauxyal visit to Australia, around the time that people were speculating about Charles visiting Australia before his visit was confirmed. And since the PR from Harry's travels is positioning him as statesman, it sounds like he might be going someplace thorny to wield his new talent.)
(And then my guess for going back to the UK is basically because of the August PR that he wanted to spend a month in the UK for his birthday and so he can be there when Charles publishes the LP activating the Counsellors of State for his CHGOM/Aussie trip, for which Charles will arrive in Australia on 10/18.)
If my predictions/theories are correct and this top secret very private trip is for immediately after this South Africa "friends and family" private time, then I don't think we'll hear about Harry being back in California (or making plans to travel back to California) until around 10/18 at the latest, which puts him at 4 weeks away from the kids, the longest (publicly) he's been away from his beloved children since 2022 when he was "stuck" in the UK for royal mourning.
As someone snarked on SMM's post, no wonder Harry uses a photo of his kids as his screensaver. He wouldn't know what they look like otherwise because he never spends time with them.

My parents were super-nervous about my going to South Africa with my church youth group on a mission trip, but I assured them there would be plenty of chaperones and convinced them the church would never take a group of high school girls any place dangerous. Besides, I reasoned, we’d probably be staying in a secure compound for our group only, protected by walls and security.
Imagine my surprise when I learned we’d be staying in tents near a river and surrounded by heavy jungle. Our plan was to assist an international medical team providing health care to mostly women and children from a nearby village. Our guides told us they’d built in some time for recreation in our schedule including several days of swimming in the river and a safari to look at some of the animals native to the area.
My bestie, McKenna and I read up on the area and talked endlessly about what we should and shouldn’t pack for the trip. Because our camp was so remote, we were told repeatedly not to overpack. We made list after list of clothes and toiletries to include in our duffels and repeatedly culled down the packing list, but we made sure to include swimsuits, since we’d be so close to the water and our itinerary included boating on the river. We also packed large quantities of sunscreen since our destination was not far from the equator and the sun would be intense, but we laughed about how we’d impress our friends when we returned with our deep tans.
When we arrived at the camp, it was like nothing I’d ever seen before and we joked with each other that “this ain’t Alabama at all!” But after our orientation, we were driven to the village and started work in the makeshift clinic, helping with simple medical exams and assisting the doctors in vaccinating children. The women from the village were shy, but smiled at us constantly and the little kids were absolutely adorable. We had fun playing games with them and keeping them occupied while they waited with their mothers.
On the third day, our guides told us they’d planned a recreation day and we’d be taken by Jeep upriver to a swimming spot for the day. We were asked to put on our swimsuits and be ready for the Jeeps in the morning. You can imagine my surprise when we gathered and the other eleven girls in our group were all wearing one-piece suits! I was the only girl wearing a bikini.
As we arrived at the swimming spot, we parked and our guides led us through the forest to the river. We passed several clearings where groups of men were working and as we walked by, they would all stop and watch as a line of 12 blushing and giggling Alabama country girls passed by. They were more curious than threatening, but I couldn’t help feeling that I attracted more than my share of attention. I knew they probably weren’t use to seeing blonde hair, but I couldn’t help but feel like the fact I was showing more skin that the other girls was making them stare.
A group of about 15 or 20 men from the village followed us along the path to the river and stood watching as we set down our towels and walked tentatively into the water. It was unsettling at first but we ignored them and started swimming with each other. Before long, we spread our towels on the riverbank in the sun and lay down, drying ourselves in the heat. It was a lovely feeling and I nodded off to sleep for a while.
When I awoke, the men from the village were still there, watching intently. Some of us joked about the attention we were drawing but the men seemed harmless. When the two girls seated on towels near me returned to the water, I sat alone and watched, my senses taking in the feeling of being half a world away from my hometown in an environment totally alien from anything I’d ever seen.
A short time later, one of the men from the village walked over to me and said something in a language I didn’t understand. Of course, the only language I understood was English and I looked at him helplessly, shrugging my shoulders and saying “I’m sorry” over and over again. But, he motioned me to follow him and I wasn’t sure about what I should do. Could someone in his group need medical help? We’d been instructed not to separate from the group but maybe someone nearby spoke English and could translate. After a few minutes of confusion, I got up and started to follow him.
We started down the path we’d taken that brought us to the river, but after a short walk veered off a short distance to a clearing with a cluster of tents. The villagers at the river had followed us and I kept looking back over my shoulder to judge how far I was from the others in my group. The man who approached me motioned to follow him into one of the tents. I hesitated, but he smiled and gave me what I thought were assurances he meant no harm, so not knowing what to do I ducked in.
He reached into a basket and brought out a primitive gold chain and approached me, smiling. He moved to place the chain around my neck and I held up my hand to stop him.
“No, no,” I stammered. “I can’t…”
He smiled and reached in the basket for another chain and moved to loop it over my head and around my neck.
“It’s beautiful,” I said. “But, I’m not allowed to accept gifts.”
I heard the men from the village behind me talking to each other as I protested the gold being strung around me, but the man just kept reaching down and producing more strands and placing them on me. Their gifts were beautiful and I looked at each one closely, but my protests were ignored. They didn’t speak English and I couldn’t communicate that sending me back to my group with strand after strand of gold chain around my neck would only raise more questions and a demand from our guides that the gifts be returned to the village. They seemed so poor, how could they be lavishing such expensive gifts on me, I wondered.
After my neck and chest were adequately bejeweled, the man started draping chains across the front of my bikini, making me blush as he focused on my cleavage. When he finished, I covered my face in embarrassment, trying to figure out how I could exit this strange scene and get back to the other girls.
I looked at the man who had decorated me and smiled. “I have to go back…” I said.
“Take off…” he replied. The first words in English I’d heard him speak.
“Yes,” I said. “I must go!” and I turned to make my way out of the tent.
He gently placed his hand on my arm. “No,” he said, pointing to my chest. “Take off.” Did he want the chains back, I wondered? Gladly, I thought and began removing the gold from my body to return to him. But, he quickly stopped me.
“NO,” he said, emphatically. “Take OFF!” Again, he pointed at my chest. I was confused.
“I’m TRYING to give you back your gold!” I said, exasperated.
“No gold,” he said, pointing again. “Take off.”
My head was spinning as I looked around at the other men. Was I hearing this right? He was giving me gold jewelry so I would …take off…my bikini top? I began to nervously shake my head and move toward the entrance to the tent, but I was surrounded. I closed my eyes and tried to think of a way out, but when I opened them, the men from the village all stood watching me, smiling. Maybe if I did this quickly, they would let me return to my group. Maybe I could give them all a quick peek?
I grabbed one of the triangles of my bikini top and quickly pulled it aside, flashing my breast. There was lots of chatter among the men and I quickly told them “now, I have to go!”
“Take off,” the man said, pointing at my chest again.
I reached up behind my neck to untie my bikini top and when the strings loosened, I slowly let it fall, exposing my breasts. The chatter among the men increased and I quickly untied the tie around my back, pulling the bikini top off my body and letting my breasts slide free. The man held out his hand, apparently in the hope that I’d be willing to give him my bikini top, but I should my head “no.”
I slowly turned around to give all the villagers a good look and returned a nervous smile to the man who’d led me here. He returned my smile, pointed lower and again said “take off..”
Ohmigod, I thought. My bikini bottoms? This can’t be happening! When I hesitated, he gave me a stern look.
There were gold fasteners on either side of my bikini bottoms and my hands were shaking as I reached down to release them. I’d been topless with only one boy back in school and although he’d begged and begged for me to get naked, I’d refused. These village men were about to see something more than one small town Alabama boy had tried and failed to get a glimpse of. Oh, well, I thought. They don’t speak English so it’s not like they could ruin my reputation back home.
I pulled my bikini bottoms away from my hips and the chatter resumed as they jostled to look at my pussy. I kind of wished I had trimmed myself up but rationalized they were probably more used to seeing a full bush. Again, I turned in a slow circle to let them all see. When I turned to face the man with the chains, he motioned for me to take a seat on a makeshift bed to one side of the tent’s interior, a wooden rack covered by a rough canvas bag stuffed with some kind of plant material.
He spoke to one of the men from the village, a tall man who looked like he was in his late 20’s or early 30’s. The man made his way through the villagers and stood in front of me. He was unclothed from the waist up, the bottom of his body covered by a rust-colored cloth belt, tying a canvas cloth covering his hips down to his ankles. Like me, his chest was decorated with gold chains and he stood expressionless.
After the older man spoke, the younger man began to loosen his belt and I could feel my face getting hot. I hoped this wasn’t what I thought it might be. The bottom cloth opened and he tossed it away, standing naked in front of me, his long, thick penis draping down in a soft arc.
I clasped my hands over my face and covered my eyes. “No, no, no,” I stammered. “I don’t know what I’m supposed to do here, but this ain’t it,” I said.
“Where I come from, 17-year old white girls don’t do hook-ups with black men just because they got jewelry from their friends.”
I felt the younger man grab my wrists and remove my hands from my face. He moved closer, placing his crotch directly in front of my face. He grasped my hand and placed it on his cock.
“A blowjob?” I said. “Is that what this is all about? You gave me all this gold so I’ll blow this dude?”
I felt the man’s hand on the back of my head, pushing me forward and without even thinking I opened my mouth. His semi-hard cock brushed against my lips and slid into my mouth, my tongue feeling the texture of his shaft as he pushed deeper. If any of the kids in my mission group found out what I was doing, it wouldn’t take long for word to get back to the other kids at school and by Monday morning, the entire school would know the rumor. I shuddered to think what kind of talk would go through our little town if any of the church chaperones ever found out.
I began moving my lips back and forth on his cock and I could feel him pulsing in my mouth. None of the other men spoke while I was blowing him and I looked up to see him staring straight at me, a snarl on his lips. I’d only ever done this twice in my life – once in eighth grade when an older boy that I’d had a crush on convinced me to “take a walk” with him behind the VFW hall during a school dance. The other was earlier in my junior year of high school when a make-out session on my third date with a boy from my high school led him to practically beg that I go down on him. I resisted in silence at first, but he persisted and I complied hoping that it would lead to a fourth date and beyond. It did, but I soured on the relationship when it because obvious that he wanted each date to end the same way.
Gradually, the younger man became more forceful as he got closer to orgasm and I started to clue in to how he wanted things to end. I realized that one way or another, I was going to wind up with a mouthful of semen and I was glad I was naked if for no other reason than returning to my group wearing a cum-stained bikini would be even more embarrassing.
From the corner of my eye I could see the other men in the tent watching intently and a few of them touching themselves. I prayed they weren’t planning the same treatment or the guides for our group would be sending out a search party.
The younger man groaned and pushed his cock deeper into my mouth. I felt him throb and his hot, milky sperm shot onto my tongue. His crotch was pungent as he held me close and his cum was salty and slightly bitter-tasting. The consistency was kind of gooey and I could feel it sliding down my throat into my tummy. What I wasn’t prepared for was the length of his orgasm. Spurt after spurt after spurt as I continued to swallow. Through it all, he held me in place and I had no other choice but to take his seed.
He withdrew from my mouth and the men were silent as I stood, still shaking, and slowly put my bikini back on. Without saying a word, I made my way out of the tent and started down the path leading back to the river, the gold chains still draped around my neck.
As I drew closer to the riverbank, I slipped off the gold chains and carried them in my hand. The other girls gasped when they saw what I was carrying and I handed out chains to each of them, telling them all they were gifts from the local village. I hoped the other girls wouldn’t get to close to me in case the residue from my encounter was still on my chin or in my hair.
When the guides announced the time had come for us to gather up our belongings and head back to the vehicles, I was relieved to be back in my group. I didn’t say much on the walk back and no one asked me where I’d gotten off to as if they’d noticed my absence much.
When we approached the Jeeps one of the guides was leaning against the car, watching me, smiling at me as I drew closer. His gaze made the goose bumps on my arms stand up and I tried not to look at him as I climbed into the Jeep.
“Enjoy your swim?” he asked.
“Yeah, it was fun,” I said, still not looking at him.
“The men from the village thought you were very beautiful,” he said. “I guess that’s why they decided to give you all those gifts.”
“That was very kind of them.”
“Not at all,” he said. “They were especially grateful for your treatment of the chief’s son. He has many wives and lots of children. The women of the village all talk about how special he makes them feel when he chooses one of them for the night.”
“Oh,” I said, blushing a deep red. “Is that so?”
The guide leaned closer and whispered in my ear. “The women say his ejaculate is so strong, a baby is practically guaranteed when he lies with them.”
“The chief must be very proud to have so many grandchildren.”
“He is,” the guide whispered. “But only his favorite wives can tell stories about how his sperm tastes. When he lets a woman please him with her mouth, he feeds her before he puts a baby inside her.”
“Ohmigod,” I whispered, slightly stunned.
“I’ll bring your group back here to swim again in three days. I hope you will enjoy it as much as you enjoyed today.”

Getting that little bit closer to heading off.
I finished up in my secondment role in marine biodiversity policy on Thursday and I’m not sure exactly what role I will be coming back to. Jarod has someone acting in his role and the kids have finished for the term with school. Finlay is currently out celebrating her 14th Birthday with friends as she will be in Namibia for the actual day.
Getting the house tidy for a house sitter (from South Africa). I’m taking Zoe up to Castlemaine tomorrow to stay with Mum (sorry miss Zoe Lyon you can’t come on this camping trip). A visit with Dad in the nursing home before heading back to Melbourne. Lots to do but feeling organised.
I’m feeling excited but a bit nervous about visiting a country that has BIG wildlife. It will become second nature in no time and we are very experienced campers/4WDers.
We were inspired to embark on this trip by a friend who travels to Southern Africa often. The idea was first sparked about 5 years ago and Greg has provided itinerary ideas and endless tips and advice to do this trip as a self guided tour. It has taken months of planning, many campsites required booking ahead 6-9 months ago. Good thing I love an Excel spreadsheet, I have a comprehensive one for this trip.

Round 1B: Backpackers vs Life is Wild
Backpackers: Getting cold feet just before their nuptials, Ryan and his fiancee embark on separate trips to Europe with their friends. Ryan realizes he wants to reunite with his betrothed, but the search is complicated by the fact that they never exchanged itineraries. To top it off, Ryan's journal disappears, then is posted online by the person who took it. Ryan, who dreams of becoming a published author, travels from Thailand to Canada with his friends in search of the culprit and his journal.
Life is Wild: New York veterinarian Danny Clarke moves his troubled family -- children Katie and Chase; Danny's second wife, Jo; and her two high-maintenance kids, Jesse and Mia -- to a broken-down lodge called The Blue Antelope in a South African game reserve. Danny hopes the change of location will heal the tensions within his blended family, and he also wants to make a difference in the lives of the animals and people of South Africa. But Danny has another reason as well: The Blue Antelope was where his late wife, Claire, grew up, and it's still home to her reclusive father, Art. As Danny and his family ease into their radically different new life, they meet locals including handsome Brit Oliver Banks and his twin sister, Emily, whose father, Colin, runs a safari business for wealthy tourists. There's also Tumelo, a teenager who dreams of becoming a veterinarian just like Danny.

Go to Asia with your family - Part 1
I've been keeping a journal since we left Berlin just over a month ago, on the 3rd of January. It's in my Apple Notes and the plan is to print it out and put it all in the time capsule we are preparing for our younger kid (currently 3 1/2 months) to open on his 18th birthday in the year 2040. Our older daughter was a Corona kid, born in August 2020, and I had a similar journal going during the height of the pandemic that I printed for her to read (maybe?) when she's older. One thing about having second kids is that you only up the ante for yourself if you did cool stuff for the first one.
So far most of the entries are a combination of travel observations and descriptions of what it's like to be in these places with our son and his sister right now. But like - what if he doesn't actually think this is that cool? What if he's not interested in reading what his out-of-touch dad wrote about traveling to Asia almost 20 years ago? Will this travel journal have any relevance to his teenage life at the dawn of the 2040s?
These questions have been gnawing at me with each journal entry I write. Is this really for him, or for me? Since my real anxiety is obviously that no one else will ever read or care about most of these journal entries as much as I do, I've decided to send a few of the ones that I'm proud of into the void so that the internet might provide me with some validation in case the teenage versions of my children can't.
Below is one of my first journal entries, as we were wrapping up a 4 day stopover in Doha. It's not a place we would have thought to visit ordinarily, but with a flight itinerary on Qatar Airways and the amped up experience of going anywhere far away with children, taking a break seemed like a good idea. Being in Qatar right after a controversial World Cup was surreal, but also in some ways illuminating.
Keep reading for a deeper dive.
Friday 6 Jan 2023
Doha
Yesterday we took the gleaming Doha metro system up to Lusail, a new development area north of the city based around the stadium where they just had the World Cup Final. We encountered a sea of new skyscrapers built on an unnecessarily large amount of land, connected by wide empty streets and a massive highway to the rest of Doha. With more new buildings on the way and mysteriously few people around who might actually occupy, visit, or work in all of this newly conjured urban real estate, Lusail exemplifies so much of what feels strange about this city generally. Particularly with all of the World Cup signage still up, it has the feel of a place that was purpose-built over the past decade and is now grasping around in search of its next purpose.
One of the common Western criticisms of the 2022 World Cup (and, by extension, of Doha and of Qatar) is that the atmosphere at the tournament was “artificial”. Insofar as Qatar built most of the infrastructure for the tournament in 12 years essentially from scratch, doubled its population over that time almost entirely with migrant workers, and even imported fans for its national team from elsewhere in the Middle East, that criticism is tempting. But as relevant as it might be to the World Cup itself, zooming out I think it misses the mark. I might describe Doha in other ways - sterile, incongruous, held back by its religious conservatism - but this city and the role it plays at this particular moment in global history is very very real.
Consider this: there are 2.6 million people in Qatar, just 300,000 of whom are Qataris. That means there are well over 2 million people in this country, the overwhelming amount from developing parts of South Asia and Africa, nearly all of whom are here because the Gulf offers a level of economic opportunity far enough beyond than what they could find at home that they are willing to give up everything in order to move here and send back money. Most are men and most come without their families - the demographics of Qatar are so heavily skewed towards male migrant workers that 75% of the current population are men.
Like many world cities, Doha is full of migrants and dreamers - but without any of the romanticism. From professionals to peasants, it’s a place where people come to get as big a piece as they can of a small desert peninsula’s incredibly lucrative oil and gas hustle. The economic engine, apart from Qatar’s role in helping the world feed its ongoing addiction to fossil fuels, is the Qatari government’s continuing effort to make Qatar relevant (beyond its natural resources). That’s what the World Cup was about, it’s what Lusail is about, and it’s what all the other tall buildings and shiny infrastructure are about. Qatar is not satisfied with just being the rich kid whose family has all the money they could ever need. It wants recognition. It wants to tell its story and it wants to matter.
Whether Doha would be nicer if it were more compact, whether it would be more entertaining if it were less conservative — none of this is actually important. What is important to the people that choose to come live and work here is that a fabulously wealthy country in Western Asia is spending billions to put itself on the map, and that they need to import 90% of the human capacity required in order to do it. It doesn’t matter that the result looks and feels a little bit like what would happen if Las Vegas and Saudi Arabia had a baby. This is simply what Middle Eastern oil money buys in the 21st century.
Doha’s economic magnetism highlights so much of what is contradictory about our times - here is a giant city in a desert climate where it’s literally too hot to go outside in the summer, designed for a far greater number of people than will ever live here, financed by the very thing that is making this part of the world hotter and more uninhabitable every year, built up and managed at a low cost by hiring international workers who are willing to do the job for as little money as possible. So much of this is so obviously wrong and bizarre but as long as the money keeps flowing, there will be people from less fortunate corners of the world who see places like Doha as their genuine best opportunity.
On our last full day here, a rare rainy day kept us in the hotel until 2pm. We decided to go for a shorter walk in the afternoon - about 30 minutes from our hotel to a park with a playground. As we did for most of our journey in Doha, our family of four stood out walking through some of the more local back streets. A brown woman not wearing a hijab, pushing a stroller next to a white guy wearing a toddler on his back…. in a city without much of a pedestrian culture, this must have looked genuinely strange. I felt a few eyes on us, though fewer than I was expecting.
We spent an hour or so at the playground and as darkness fell and the call to prayer rang out throughout the city, the rain started to come again, first as drizzle and then crescendoing with the sounds of the Azzam. If I were less immediately concerned with the welfare of two small children, it would have been quite a beautiful moment, but with Maya’s clothes getting increasingly soaked and rain starting to seep through into Camino’s stroller, we looked for the first place we could take cover, which happened to be the entrance to the men’s park toilet and prayer room.
So there we were, our multicultural family of four, looking every bit the part of a Western caricature as we stood with our stroller and toddler backpack with Zara wearing a low cut shirt and stylish green blazer in a hallway crammed entirely with modestly dressed men coming from their evening prayers. They were dressed like South Asians rather than Qataris or other Arabs - migrants, most likely, as opposed to locals, coming together to pray in the park prayer room. Aware of how awkward Zara was probably feeling, I held Maya and tried to keep Camino warm in the stroller. Her presence would likely have raised quite a few eyebrows in any other situation, but it seemed there was a tacit understanding that this was an OK reason for her to be in the entrance to the men’s prayer room given the weather outside.
Still, I knew she felt weird and at some point we decided to make a break for it. We got pretty wet again leaving the park and took shelter in the first restaurant we could find, a South Indian place that called us an Uber and helped us dry Maya off. The driver came and brought us home for a stated price of 9 Qatari rials (3 euros). I thanked him and gave him two 10 rial bills, to which he seemed a bit confused why. I’ve been trying to tip well.
A city full of transplants from all over the Global South, many of them everyday Muslims, stitched together by the common experience of hustling for opportunity in this center of Arab wealth and cultural ambition - I went back into the hotel thinking that this is the real story of Doha.
In a lot of ways, this place is as representative of the 21st century as any Western city.
I’m still not really sure how I feel about all this. But I’m glad I saw it.

Okay I hope you don’t mind if I ask for more headcanons because your kids one was so cute!!! What are you favorite surf trip headcanons? Like specific things they do or places they go, etc.
Ah I don’t mind AT ALL!! Talking about Jiara is one of my favorite things, thanks for giving me an excuse to do it :’)
I think my favorite surf trip headcanon is that they just go, with no set destination or itinerary. They act completely on impulse. Even after they get the gold, they still stay in crappy motels or wherever gets them closest to the beach. They never stay in one place long. Now that JJ is finally out of Kildare (and not in the trapped-on-a-desert-island type of way), he just wants to see everything. And though Kie has some travel experience, it’s a lot less than she lets on and she’s equally enamored by just how different everything is from their hometown.
The lack of itinerary is, of course, to the chagrin of the Carreras and the rest of the Pogues at times. With their newfound riches, could they easily upgrade to an excellent international cellphone plan? Yes. Do either JJ or Kie ever think to do so? No. So they’ll end up in Yucatan and go a day or two without even realizing they don’t have reception. John B is delighted to hear from them when they call from a random payphone but Sarah’s stressed because she just sent Kie’s birthday present to Guatemala.
The one thing Kie does use her phone for is Google Translate. She gets very into immersion and while JJ has trouble keeping track of languages, there’s something about his charming crooked smile that ends up smoothing over most communication barriers. They make a game out of trying various local delicacies, opting to eat first and ask questions later. Kie’s palate is a bit broader than his but JJ’s bravery overtakes hers, especially when there’s bugs involved.
They make it across the Atlantic at some point, checking out Cornwall, Dorset, Jeffreys Bay in South Africa, Bali, and then down to Sydney. When they eventually decide to go back home, after however many months abroad, they decide to do it in style. Maybe it’s the fact that they haven’t really splurged much. Maybe they just don’t want the trip to end. Regardless, they somehow end up booking a cruise to take them back to North America.
It’s a hard sell, given their last awful experience on a big boat. Kie spends the first two days absolutely terrified whenever JJ leans over the deck railing. But they take a particular pleasure in going to the fancy dining room in their classic beach attire, drawing looks from both staff and fellow guests. JJ & Kie both laugh at just how Kook-y the whole thing is, this ship with its Swarovski chandeliers and grand sweeping staircases and Michelin star dining, and decide they'll probably never do anything like this again. They take advantage of the onboard wi-fi to tell the Pogues they’re finally coming home and when they arrive in Kildare, there’s a Welcome Home party (complete with a cheesy but adorable banner) waiting for them at the Chateau.

Boston Boy - Safari
A little smut, a little fluff.... Might lead to something else along the way.
Kate looked up as her husband walked in the door. She was on the floor in the baby’s room playing with Madison and Dodger. Gally was sleeping in the living room on the back of the couch. Kate’s stomach did a little flip at the sight of him. Chris was looking incredibly sexy these days. He had grown his hair out and let his beard get kind of shaggy for a new role he was filming soon and was also buffing up again to play Steve Rogers. Kate found herself extremely attracted to the new look he was rocking.
“My girls!” Chris hopped down onto his belly on the floor, kissing Kate quickly before scooping Madison up as he rolled onto his back. Madison squealed in delight, clapping her hands as he lifted her above him.
“You’re home early.” Kate said, laughing at Madison.
“Meeting ended early. Thank god!” Chris brought his daughter’s belly to his face and blew a couple of raspberries, making her squeal again. “I have a surprise for you..”
“Me? Really?”
“I know you’re not exactly huge on surprises….”
“I changed my mind a little bit on that.” Kate’s eyes drifted to Madison and Chris laughed.
“I guess so.”
Kate stood up. “Ok, Jelly Bean, it’s time for your nap.”
“No.” Madison said.
“Your favorite word is going to get you in trouble one day very soon.”
“No.”
Chris laughed. “Come on, kiddo.” He got to his feet easily with their daughter and deposited her in the crib. Madison started to tear up, but Chris shook his head. “Nope. No water works. It’s naptime.” He leaned down. “Mommy and I will be here when you wake up.” He kissed her and she threw herself back angrily. Chris chuckled at his pouting daughter as Kate ran her finger down Madison’s nose lovingly.
“Night-night, Maddie.” Kate flipped on the baby monitor and turned on the little speaker that played soft lullabies and she and Chris walked out with Dodger, closing the door until it was only open just a crack.
Dodger took off downstairs and Kate and Chris headed into their bedroom. Kate shut the door, setting the monitor on her nightstand. He grinned when she suddenly pulled him to her by the back of his neck, running her hands through his hair and giving it a little tug. “Can you please keep this look forever?”
“It’s really doing it for you, huh?” Chris asked, lips pressed against her neck.
“Fuck yes, it is.” She took his hand and helped lead it up her shorts between her thighs. Chris groaned at how wet she was and bit down on her neck. “Every time I see you, this happens.”
“Fuck, baby….” He bounced on the bed when she pushed him back. Kate leaned over and began unbuckling Chris’ jeans. He let out a groan as she pulled his jeans off and freed his erection, wrapping her hand and lips around him. His hips jerked when she added some suction and his fingers dug into the comforter. “Shit….” Chris watched her bob up and down on him as he felt himself getting closer to the edge. Just when he thought he was going to burst, she removed her lips from him with a quiet pop.
Without missing a beat, Kate stood up and removed her clothes as quickly as possible. Chris yanked his shirt off and reached back to grab a condom from his nightstand. He had barely rolled the thing on before Kate speared herself on him. They both moaned at the feeling and he sat up, pulling her against him. Her fingers raked through his hair again as his hands gripped her hips. Soft curses fell from their lips as she ground down on him over and over.
Chris knew his wife’s body fairly well by now. He knew she wasn’t going to get off with this position. His arms wrapped around her waist and he stood up. She let out a little squeal of surprise and held onto him as he knelt on the bed. When he released her, they were in the center of the bed near the headboard. Chris turned her around so she was facing the wall and took her hands in his, guiding them to the top of the headboard.
Kate gripped the wood tightly as he slid into her from behind. His teeth sank into her shoulder and his hands held her hips tightly. He set a bruising pace, needing her to find her end with him. She growled his name among the string of f-bombs and he moved one of his hands around to cup her sex. Two fingers slipped past her folds and began to rub the bundle of nerves there in a punishing rhythm. Kate cried out pitching backward and shoving herself even further on him. He sucked in a breath as he felt the tip of his dick hit her cervix.
“Right there. Please.” Kate begged.
Chris kept up his pace until her walls suddenly clenched around him. She shook through her orgasm, gripping the headboard so tightly it began to creak in protest. A moment later, he lost his rhythm and shoved deep inside of her, filling the condom as she milked him through her long climax. They stayed still for a moment. The only movement was Chris’ left hand massaging her hip where he had held it tightly.
Finally, he pulled out of her and discarded the condom in the small trash can under his nightstand. Kate stretched out on top of the comforter, looking like a sated sex goddess. Her hair was splayed around her and her skin had the post-sex glow. Chris stretched out beside her, running his fingers over her ribs and breasts. She reached up and ran her fingers through his hair again. “God, I love this look on you.”
“Clearly.” Chris chuckled.
“I also prefer you with the chest hair. Have I ever told you that?”
“I don’t think you have.”
“Steve Rogers is gorgeous and all, but he lacks your chest hair.” She ran her nails down his chest. “I appreciate Ari Levinson so much right now.”
“The man playing him appreciates the view he’s getting right now.”
“You’re welcome.” Chris laughed. “So, you mentioned something about a surprise earlier?”
“I did.”
“Will you be telling me the surprise?”
“I will.” He kissed her. “You have to come downstairs, though.” Kate put on an oversized t-shirt and grabbed the baby monitor as Chris put on some sweatpants. She followed him downstairs where a group of wrapped boxes were sitting on the coffee table in the living room.
“What’s the occasion?”
“Do I need one to give my wife a gift?”
“I guess not, but that’s not a gift.”
“It all goes together, so technically it’s one gift.”
“Ok.” She sat down on the floor and began ripping into the paper on the first box closest to her. It held an extremely expensive Canon EF 70-200mm f/4 L IS USM long lens. “Holy shit! What’s this for?”
“Keep opening the boxes.”
Kate eagerly opened the next box and found a sturdy backpack for her cameras, lenses, and accessories. The next box held a new Canon EOS 7D DSLR camera body. “Are you trying to turn me into a paparazzi?”
Chris laughed. “Fuck no. Keep opening.”
She smiled and opened the next box. It contained a stuffed elephant, a stuffed lion that roared when you squeezed it, and a large manilla envelope. Carefully opening the envelope, she pulled out a large brochure with an itinerary and plane tickets. The brochure and itinerary were for a twelve-day safari in South Africa and Namibia. There were pictures of a luxurious tent that could be considered “glamping” instead of camping, various African wildlife, fancy picnics, massage tables on the African savannah, and a luxury resort.
“Chris….”
“I have a two-week break between pre-production and the start of filming. My mom has offered to babysit Maddie for the twelve days and then fly her out to the set to be with us.” Chris walked over and sat down on the couch in front of her. “Let’s mark something off both of our bucket lists together.”
“You want to go on a safari, too?” “Since I was a kid.”
“I can’t believe you!”
“Are you mad?”
Kate suddenly launched herself up off the floor and into his arms. “You’re amazing!” She kissed him all over his face and lips as he laughed and held her tightly.
“I thought you could use a new camera for the experience and the man at the store said that lens would be the best for a safari. You can get amazing pictures without putting yourself in harm’s way.”
“You are literally the best husband in the entire world.”
“I did good?”
“You did great! This is probably the best present I’ve ever gotten.”

Kate laid on her stomach, head resting lightly on her arms. Chris was beside her on his side with his head propped up on his arm drawing light circles all over her bare back. They were on the final night of their safari and had spent the day luxuriating in the spa of their resort. They had seen so many amazing animals on their trip, Kate had taken over 2,000 pictures with her new camera and lenses, and they had even gotten to love on a baby elephant. This was the perfect honeymoon they hadn’t taken after they had gotten married.
“I have a surprise for you.” Kate said, turning her eyes up to her very sexy husband.
“Yeah?” Chris leaned over to kiss her bare shoulder.
“Unfortunately, I have to get out of bed to get it.”
“That is very unfortunate.” His large hand roamed down her back and over the globes of her backside to slide one of his fingers between her legs.
“Mmm, but I really want to give you this present.”
“Give it to me after round two?”
“You’re ready for it now?”
“What can I say? Being around all of these wild animals has brought the animal out in me.” He growled against her shoulder, biting down lightly as his finger began a slow in and out movement on her tender flesh.
Kate hummed happily, wriggling against Chris as he allowed more of his weight on top of her. “But it’s a really good gift.”
“Better than this?”
“Not better. Different.”
He nipped at her shoulder again. “How far do you have to go?”
“The bathroom.”
Chris glanced at the door across the room and sighed. “That’s so far.”
“I’ll make it quick.” Kate wriggled out from under him and rushed to the bathroom. He heard her digging in her bags for a minute and then she reappeared with one hand behind her back. She slipped easily back into bed, taking up the same position she had left. In her hand was a little black box that looked like a ring box and a navy blue folder with no markings on the outside.
“What are you plotting?”
Kate giggled. “Something major, of course.”
“Of course.” Chris sat up, crossing his legs in front of him. She presented the folder to him first and he took it, dramatically taking a breath before opening it. Inside was a realtor’s packet for a six bedroom house in Concord, Massachusetts. There were also packets from an interior decorator and a contractor. “What….”
“Well, we’ve got to pick out color schemes and I really want an open floor plan for the kitchen, dining room, and living room. The kitchen needs a massive overhaul to get it up to what I want. I’m going to absorb one of the smaller bedrooms into the master bedroom as a walk-in closet and update the master bathroom.”
“Hold on…. You bought a house?”
Kate grinned. “I had your mom and Carly go on house tours and this one just spoke to all three of us. The outside is perfect. There’s a big yard in the back and it’s in a very quiet, nicely spaced out neighborhood….”
“You’ve seen it?”
“Yes. I drove up two weekends ago when you were in LA.” She sat up, wrapping the sheet around her torso. “Are you mad?”
“No! I’m impressed!”
“Really?”
“Yeah!”
“It won’t be ready for another two and a half months, but you’ll be done filming by then and we can move in when you get back.”
“This is amazing, Kat.”
“I really hope that you’ll like it. Your mom was so helpful with this.”
“I already love it!” He leaned over and kissed her. “So, I’m assuming the keys are in that little box.”
“Actually, no. You’re mom has the keys.” Kate held the box out to Chris. “This is actually bigger than the house.”
“Are we getting shrunk down to fit in our house?” He teased.
She rolled her eyes playfully. “Just open it, dork.”
Chris took the box and opened it. Inside was a tiny T-bone shaped device. It took him a second to realize what he was looking at. “Is this….”
“My IUD. Yeah.”
“Should I be grossed out?”
Kate sighed. “No! This is supposed to be a romantic gesture. It’s supposed to be me telling you that I’m ready to start trying when you are. I’ve got birth control pills as a backup in case you’re not ready yet, but….”
“Throw them in the trash.”
“Yeah?”
“Oh god, baby,” He set the box down and gently held her face in his hands. “The thought of expanding our family is just…. It’s the most wonderful thing I can think of.”
Kate smiled happily. “I was so worried that you would be angry.”
“Why?”
“Well, I mean…. I didn’t consult you before I bought the house and took my IUD out.”
Chris laughed. “Kat, I would never in a million years be mad at you for this. Please don’t ever feel like you need to consult me on every little thing.”
“I mean, this wasn’t exactly a little thing. I should’ve at least consulted you on spending that much money.”
“Maybe, but we had already talked about doing this. And I’m happy that you took the initiative. Sometimes I’m not the best at making big decisions.”
“Case meet point,” Kate let the sheet slip away as she straddled Chris’ lap. “You buying our penthouse without telling me.” He chuckled as his lips found her collarbone.. “Yeah. Like that.”
“You still up for round two?”
“Are you kidding me?” Chris glanced at his lap where his manhood was standing at attention.
“Good. Me too.”
“Quick question. Why did you wait until the end of the trip to tell me?”
“I didn’t want to spend our vacation planning the future. I wanted to be present with you every moment.”
“Just when I think I can’t love you anymore than I already do, you go and prove me wrong.”
Kate grinned at her husband. “Shut up and kiss me.”
